The Times - Magazine Article
Mark Whiteley was quoted in The Times Magazine today - 15th Jan 2010.
In an article by Sarah Vine called "Purple vein, purple veins" (page 51, The Times Magazine) Mark Whiteley explained the difference between "Thread Veins" of the face - and those of the legs which need far more in-depth understanding to treat successfully.
Thread veins on the face can be very successfully treated by several methods, available at Absolute Aesthetics (www.AbsoluteAesthetics.co.uk).
Leg thread veins however need a specialist Duplex Ultrasound Scan to find out what the underlying cause is and to make sure the correct treatment is planned - which is often to hidden varicose veins deep inside the leg and unseen under the leg thread veins. The Whiteley Clinic in Harley Street and Guildford specialises in these scans and treaments (www.thewhiteleyclinic.co.uk)

Text book varicose veins and venous reflux - by Mark Whiteley
Mark Whiteley has just finished a new text book which explains how leg veins work - and is looking for a publisher to publish it. It includes:
- the new understanding as to why varicose veins, venous eczema and leg ulcers occur
- the underlying cause for leg thread veins as well as varicose veins other venous conditions
- the rationale for the new treatments
This text book includes new concepts that have only been identified in the last few years - and it explains why so many of the "old" ideas of varicose veins are wrong - such as:
- Why varicose veins are NOT just cosmetic
- Why pregnancy DOES NOT cause varicose veins
- Why some tests doctor use do NOT show venous problems - even when they are there
- Why VENOUS HYPERTENSION doesn't actually exist
It explains for the first time:
- "Phase 1 and phase 2 passive reflux"
- Active reflux
- The "double whammy effect"
There are over 50 figures to make understanding easy - so that everyone who is interested in veins - doctors, nurses, medical students, therapists and beauticians - can all learn things that will help them in their everyday approach to venous problems - whether it be assessing varicose veins, treating thread veins or diagnosing leg ulcers and skin discolouration.
This book will be the first in a series of books covering the whole of phlebology. When a publisher is found and the book is widely available, it will be announced here.
