CHIVA and Haemodynamic Surgery - Excellent new book from Roberto Delfrate

Many venous surgeons in the Northern Hemisphere are unaware of CHIVA and the haemodynamic approach to the treatment of varicose veins.

This book is a magnificent introduction to CHIVA and the haemodynamic approach to venous reflux surgery.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/new-diagnostic-approach-varicose-veins/dp/8898681003/

Even for those who do not aim to practice CHIVA should be aware of the techniques and the possibility of another approach to the treatment of varicose veins.

Reviews:

"This book on haemodynamic surgery by Roberto Delfrate is a masterpiece.
The author manages to convey complex haemodynamic principles and their correction by CHIVA principles using simple line diagrams and explanations, enabling anyone from novice to experienced haemodynamic surgeon to gain a powerful insight into this fascinating approach to varicose veins
and venous reflux disease."

Prof. Mark Whiteley MS FRCS (Gen)Consultant Surgeon, The Whiteley Clinic
Visiting Professor, University of Surrey
United Kingdom

"Roberto Delfrate's goal is to allow everybody to take advantage of what he has learnt so far through a clearly presented teaching book aimed at doctors interested in phlebology and willing to master the secrets of venous haemodynamics, keypoint of phlebological diagnostics and therapy."

Prof. Claude Franceschi
Consultant in vascular pathology, complex venous insufficiency and vascular malformations
Saint Joseph Hospital, Paris

Medical Consultant
Private Clinic - Figlie di San Camillo, Cremona - Italy
Director of the diplôme d'Ecodoppler vasculaire
Groupe hospitalier Pitié-Salpêtrière
University of Paris VII, Paris

"This manual written by Dr. Roberto Delfrate is recommended to phlebologists, angiologists, vascular surgeons, and especially to vascular surgery residents.
In Vascular Surgery training, knowledge of haemodynamics is a basic requisite for the education of residents.
This knowledge is the basis of a full understanding of the clinical manifestations of both arterial and venous diseases.
In many aspects the venous system is far more complicated than the arterial system due to its anatomical network complexity, the existence of the muscle pumps that allow for the return of blood to the heart against forces of gravity and the presence of competent or incompetent valves in the vessels."

Prof. Livio Gabrielli Università degli Studi di Milano
Director of the Residency Training Program in Vascular Surgery
University of Milan

“This handbook offers a new approach to vascular surgery, which is based on a haemodynamic, conservative and mini-invasive perspective to treat clinic evidence of arterial and venous pathologies.
It describes the evolution from classic phlebology to the systematic and aware use of Echo Color Doppler and haemodynamics.
The development of the Chiva strategy, coupled with ultrasonographic innovation, has enabled the Private Clinic Figlie di San Camillo in Cremona to offer better therapies for venous insufficiency with acknowledged and long-term satisfaction of its patients.
Over these last seven years of Doctor Delfrate’s work at our clinic, more than 2,700 Chiva surgical procedures have been carried out, with a steady yearly increase in demand, as evidenced by the long waiting list.”

Venous Leg Ulcer cured by The Whiteley Protocol - Testimonial

The following testimonial was send to us by the patient pictured below:

"Last year I attended The Whiteley Clinic in Guildford with an extremely painful leg ulcer which had resisted all treatment for six months. I met Mr Price and his team of lovely nurses whose care from the word go went over and above the call of duty.

Suffice to say the ulcer is now completely cured and I would be happy for anyone to see before and after pictures. Leg ulcers can be cured no matter how serious and Mr Price is the man who can do it."

Varicose veins and Haemorrhoids (Hemorrhoids)

Published research suggests a link between leg varicose veins and haemorrhoids (hemorrhoids or "piles").

Current treatments for haemorrhoids, including cutting them away or using laser or surgery to destroy the haemorrhoidal artery (hemorrhoidal), may be sub-optimal.

Recurrent varicose veins due to missed pelvic varicose veins - Research from the Whiteley Clinic

Research about to published in the Journal of Vascular Surgery; Venous and Lymphatic Disorders shows that more than 1 in 4 women with recurrent varicose veins in the legs, have a major problem with pelvic varicose veins that has previously been missed.

Recurrent Varicose Veins due to Missed Pelvic Varicose Veins in
more than 1 in 4 Women - Research from The Whiteley Clinic

Despite over a decade of research into this area from The Whiteley Clinic, most varicose vein surgeons and clinics still do not check for pelvic varicose veins.

As such, this research suggests that over 1 in 4 women undergoing varicose vein procedures are having incomplete treatment and are much more likely to get the varicose veins back again after intervention.

PAVA are small varicose veins, often wrapped around big varicose veins, that do not get treated by normal varicose vein treatments.

Failure to identify them and treat them may lead to recurrent varicose veins in the future being erroneously thought of as "neovascular tissue" or the re-growth of veins after varicose vein treatments.

Venous foot ulcer cured by The Whiteley Protocol (TM)

This 84 year old lady has been admitted to Accident and Emergency on 2 separate occasions, bleeding from her left foot ulcer. One of these hospital departments as in a teaching hospital!

On each occasion, the bleeding was stopped and the patient discharged home with compression stockings. She was not offered any treatment to cure her or to stop it happening again.

Venous foot ulcer - bled twice before cured by The Whiteley Protocol (TM)
Venous foot ulcer - bled badly enough to need emergency
admission to hospital on 2 occasions
The ulcer became so painful that she couldn't wear shoes and found it hard to walk. Her GP took a biopsy which made the ulcer worse.

Fortunately the lady heard about The Whiteley Clinic and The Whiteley Protocol (TM) from a friend and came for an extended duplex ultrasound scan 6 weeks ago.

The scan showed "hidden varicose veins" which were treated 4 weeks ago by local anaesthetic EVLT (endovenous laser therapy) and TRLOP (Transluminal Occlusion of Perforators) which was invented by Prof Mark Whiteley.

Patients with Leg Ulcers and their Carers needed for Leg Ulcer research project - The Leg Ulcer Charity

The Leg Ulcer charity is performing a research study, asking patients with leg ulcers or those who care for them, to answer an online questionnaire. For this study, we are not including paid health care professionals - just friends, family or volunteers who provide care to patients with leg ulcers without being paid to do so.

Patients with leg ulcers and their carers needed for Leg Ulcer Charity research
Patients with Leg Ulcers and their carers needed to help with Leg Ulcer Research http://www.legulcercharity.org/research.html
If you are someone who:

- has a leg ulcer
- cares for someone with a leg ulcer without being paid for it

then please follow this link and answer the online questionnaire.

If you know someone who:

- has a leg ulcer
- cares for someone with a leg ulcer without being paid for it

then please send them this link and ask them to answer the online questionnaire.

The Leg Ulcer Charity is a UK based charity which aims to help patients find a permanent cure for their leg ulcers. Over 60% of people with leg ulcers could be cured, if only patients were given the chance to have a duplex ultrasound scan and local anaesthetic laser vein surgery. Support stockings or bandages do not cure leg ulcers - they only provide temporary healing before the ulcers return again in the future.

For more information about Leg Ulcers and how to find a cure, please see: www.legulcercharity.org

We need donations to be able to achieve our aim - to stop needless suffering in those patients with leg ulcers who might be curable with simple tests and local anaesthetic treatments. Please forward our website to everyone you know - why not make The Leg Ulcer Charity your charity of choice next time you are involved in any fund-raising?

Varicose veins of vagina and vulva - Prof Mark Whiteley featured in Daily Mail

Women suffering from varicose veins of the vagina and vulva is a common problem after childbirth that can now be cured. Unfortunately most gynaecologists and midwives don't seem to know this and so women are left to suffer without curative treatment.

Vaginal and vulval varicose veins in Daily Mail - featuring Prof Mark Whiteley
Prof Mark Whiteley featured in Daily Mail
explaining about Vaginal and Vulval Varicose Veins
Since 2000, Prof Mark Whiteley and his team have been researching pelvic varicose veins - the cause of pelvic congestion syndrome and varicose veins of the vagina and vulva. They have perfected the Transvaginal Duplex Ultrasound scan which their research shows is far superior to CT, MRI and venograms to find out the source of pelvic varicose veins.

Once found, these can be treated under X-ray control using a technique called "Coil Embolisation". Through a single needle hole, a special catheter can be passed through the venous system into the pelvic veins that are causing the problem. A metal coil can then be passed into the vein, causing it to contract and permanently close.

After 6 weeks, many of the visible varicose veins have gone and most of the discomfort and pain caused by the varicose veins has also been cured. Any remaining veins can be injected with foam sclerotherapy using the Carbon Dioxide/Oxygen foam technique published by The Whiteley Clinic that is much safer than the original Air foam technique.

Thread vein treatments in Daily Mail - Mark Whiteley featured by Sarah Vine

In today's Daily Mail (15th of May 2014), top beauty journalist Sarah Vine has written an article entitled "How to get rid of those pesky little thread veins". http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2628556/Sarah-Vine-Beauty-Sleuth-How-rid-pesky-little-thread-veins.html

In the article, Sarah quotes Prof Mark Whiteley as "the best person, in my personal experience".

Leg thread veins are much harder to treat them was originally thought and proper treatment entails duplex ultrasound scan of the underlying veins to find out if there is a cause that needs to be addressed before the thread veins are treated.

Almost 9/10 people with thread veins have an underlying cause - usually "hidden varicose veins". Failure to identify these with duplex ultrasound scan and treating them with one of the new local anaesthetic pinhole vein techniques often leads to failure of the thread vein treatment - wasting time and money and sometimes causing permanent damage to the skin.

For more information about the treatment of thread veins, please see:
