A research project showing the excellent results obtained 10 years after Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) treatment of varicose veins at The Whiteley Clinic won a national prize last week.

Best Research Poster at
The Venous Forum, Royal Society of Medicine April 2013
Daniel Taylor, one of The Whiteley Clinic summer research fellows 2012, studied the 10 year outcomes of varicose vein surgery performed at The Whiteley Clinic.

As The Whiteley Clinic was the first clinic in the UK to use the new endovenous (or keyhole) techniques for varicose vein surgery, having started in March 1999, The Whiteley Clinic has a unique perspective on these new treatments.

Daniel Taylor and his fellow researchers followed up patients treated at The Whiteley Clinic between 10 and 14 years ago - and found over 93% success of the treatment - a success rate rarely found in such long term studies of varicose vein treatments.

The research project and the results were presented as a poster and were awarded prize for the best poster.

Huffington Post - Who Should You Trust to Treat Your Varicose Veins?

Who should treat varicose veins?

In the past, General Surgeons used to operate on them. Now with local anaesthetic "pin-hole" techniques, lots of doctors for other specialities are treating veins. In some countries, non-medically qualified people and purely commercial companies are jumping on the band-wagon and offering vein treatments.

Who Should You Trust to Treat Your Varicose Veins?

This wouldn't matter if everyone was doing the same thing and getting the same results. However, just like any practical skill, there are certain people who spend more time practising or researching a subject and who are likely to get better results than the "occasional dabbler".

Prof Mark Whiteley raises his head above the parapet with this controversial article in The Huffington Post.

On the Right Vein - Prof Mark Whiteley in Cosmetic News

Cosmetic News Magazine has published an article about Prof Mark Whiteley's research and treatments of veins.
On the Right Vein - Prof Mark Whiteley in Cosmetic News April 2013
The article explains why cosmetic and beauty clinics tend to treat thread veins and varicose veins incorrectly - by only treating the veins they can see. By treating these and ignoring the deeper veins that cause the veins on the surface, the risks of the veins coming back again - or causing skin blemishes - is higher.

Prof Mark Whiteley in Cosmetic News April 2013
Mark explains in the article which are the best ways to treat the veins - but points out a Doppler examination or Duplex examination is essential before any vein treatment is carried out.

Post pregnancy varicose veins misdiagnosed - Mark Whiteley in Prima and BabyExpert website

Over the last 12 years, Professor Mark Whiteley and his team have developed a deep understanding of pelvic veins reflux - and how this causes vulval, vaginal and leg varicose veins - as well as pelvic congestion syndrome and haemorrhoids.

Their world leading research into pelvic veins is being presented at academic meetings all over the world.

Mark Whiteley in Prima Baby and Pregnancy Magazine
This month, Prima Baby and Pregnancy magazine features an article on Mark and his team, explaining how most doctors who treat women with varicose veins rarely check the pelvic veins - with the result that many get their veins back again!!
